UPPER MICHIGAN – A New Michigan car seat law set to take effect April 2nd.  Children aged newborn up until the age of two must be in a rear-facing car seat, current state law is up to age 1 and Front facing car seats requirements will be increased from aged two to five. Those car seats must have a five-point harness.  Then, the booster seat requirements will be up until age eight.  Children who have outgrown their booster seat must continue to sit in the back seat until they turn 13 years old.  Michigan State Police crash statistics say motor vehicle crashes are among the top causes of death for children under 13 years old.
