RHINELANDER – Police in Northern Wisconsin warning of a scam.  Since Tuesday, Oneida, Vilas, and Forest Counties have had a similar scam where victims have lost tens of thousands of dollars.  In a Facebook post, the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office says scammers are calling landlines acting as relatives currently in custody working through bail bondsmen and attorneys collecting money for bail.  These scammers are actually coming to people’s homes to collect the money for bonds.  This scam appears to target mostly the elderly.  Law enforcement will never come to your residence to collect cash for bond.  The three counties are working together to identify the people and reported vehicles involved.
