WASHBURN - After months of construction, Highway 13 through Washburn is once again open. On Friday, a ribbon cutting ceremony was held to celebrate. The highway project has taken the last seven months, with new pipes, utilities and asphalt being installed on that stretch of road through town. Bayfield Street runs right through the center of town and the street construction has presented some challenges to business owners. The Chamber of Commerce put up signs to direct customers. Next on the construction list, Second Avenue West to Superior, that work is expected to start in the spring of 2027.
