VILAS COUNTY - The Vilas County board’s forestry committee touched on a bill by Wisconsin Sen. Mary Felzkowski to increase ATV and UTV weight limits by 500 pounds, from 3,000 to 3,500 pounds (excluding fluids). The Wisconsin County Forests Association (WCFA) is the sole opponent. Forest administrator Chad Keranen and committee member Joe Muelbach (who attended the WCFA meeting) expressed concern about increased weight without funding for trail maintenance, noting current road damage. Muelbach, however, was positive about the removal of a provision to widen vehicles. The bill has passed committee and moves to the assembly for consideration.
