HAYWARD - Hayward Middle School went into a soft lockdown because of a student bringing a weapon to school yesterday. School staff were made aware of the weapon on campus and immediately contacted local law enforcement. Police officers responded quickly and, during their investigation, confirmed that a student was in possession of the weapon. The weapon was confiscated and is now with Law Enforcement. During this time, the students were placed in a soft lockdown for approximately 20 minutes. The individual was removed from campus and will face disciplinary action in accordance with school district policy. Due to legal obligation to maintain student confidentiality, the school will not release the name of the student. The school did not release information on what the weapon was.
