VILAS COUNTY - Several fire and police departments have received grants from the Wisconsin Public Service foundation to purchase equipment. This round of grants from the WPS is being given to 40 public safety agencies. The Rewarding Responders Grant Program awarded $75,000 to allow for the purchase of critical equipment or training. The Vilas County Sheriff’s Office will use the funds received to purchase a thermal imaging device, which will help law enforcement to locate individuals at night, in poor weather or in heavily forested areas. Minocqua, Woodruff and Oneida also received funding through the grant program.
