LAC DU FLAMBEAU - The Oneida County Sheriff’s Department will pay a Lac Du Flambeau tribal member $1.25 million to settle his civil rights lawsuit following a 2024 arrest that left the man bloodied and needing 13 stitches above his right eye.  The settlement stems from a lawsuit where Thomas Maulson hit the pavement hard while handcuffed and being handled by an Oneida County Sheriff's deputy in 2024 at the Rhinelander Walmart. Maulson says he was targeted because he is indigenous.  Police dashcam captured the incident.   The settlement just days before the case was scheduled to be heard in front of a jury.
