WAKEFIELD - The Wakefield City Council is reviewing a new ordinance for wireless communication facilities, already approved by the City Attorney. Key provisions include allowing installations in industrial zones, requiring stealth designs in commercial areas, and conditional use permits for residential or public properties. Prohibitions apply within 1,500 feet of historical sites/residences and 3,000 feet of schools. The ordinance details design, including height, setback, landscaping, fencing, and noise, and requires integrating facilities into existing structures, with new towers supporting at least three providers. Owners must fund tower removal upon abandonment, collapse, or failure to meet criteria, with city enforcement via fines, permit revocation, or removal at owner’s expense.
