VILAS COUNTY - A new Northwoods Forest History Experience has opened in Vilas County, bringing forestry history to life inside a restored Civilian Conservation Corps barracks in Manitowish Waters. The exhibits explore forest management from Indigenous practices to modern timber harvesting. The site also features a traditional Ojibwe wigwam and encourages visitors to explore forestry history throughout the Northwoods. The Northwoods Forest History Experience is open Tuesday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through the summer and by appointment for schools and other groups.
