SAXON - An Enbridge Line Five leak in Iron County is the largest oil and gas pipeline spill reported in Wisconsin in more than 50 years. The August 25 leak released about 31,000 barrels, or 1.3 million gallons of natural gas liquids. Enbridge says a subcontractor’s truck struck the pipeline. Federal Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration is investigating and has ordered third-party testing of the damaged pipe and an analysis of what caused the failure. The NTSB is not currently investigating, though environmental groups are calling for its involvement.
