VILAS COUNTY - The Vilas County Economic Development Corporation has announced it is almost to its goal of 90% coverage for high-speed internet in the county. Five years ago, the VCEDC formed a “buddy program” of sorts, helping individual towns learn about and obtain internet. Much of the work getting fiber installed has been with the help of a federal program. Bringing fiber to roughly 90% of the county makes it a destination, where remote workers, entrepreneurs and other businesses can feel comfortable developing their presence, knowing they can rely on good broadband connections. Soon the Vilas County Economic Development Corporation will be targeting remote workers and entrepreneurs throughout the state as well as northern Illinois and the Minneapolis/St. Paul Area. There’ll be an ad campaign called Northwoods Charm, Big City Connection, which will run throughout the rest of the year.
