UPPER MICHIGAN – A $78,000 in grant money from EGLE is available to help corral old tires in in U.P. In Michigan, you’re not allowed to dispose of whole tires in a landfill. That’s because tires fill up with landfill gases and become buoyant, rising to the top of landfills and disrupting the compaction process as a result many get stacked in back yards or dumped alongside roads   The funds will be used by communities across the U.P. for events to gather old tires to be recycled.
