N. WISCONSIN - The frozen road declaration for the winter 2025 season has been lifted for the entire state by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation. The declaration allows for heavier load allowances for truckers carrying road salt, sand or logs during the winter months. WisDOT and county highway personnel monitor temperature forecasts, along with frost tubes under the pavement, to help determine when roads are adequately frozen to accommodate heavier loads or thawed to lift frozen road declarations. Class 2 and posted road restrictions are on hold until field staff has a chance to evaluation conditions after the rapid warmup in the last few weeks.

Seasonal Weight Restrictions for local and Primary Roads in Gogebic County go into effect at 10am this morning.  The Gogebic County Road Commission says they will monitor the frost action on Gogebic County Roads for the Remainder of the weight restricted season.
