HOUGHTON - After nearly five hours of public comment, the Houghton County Board voted just past 11 p.m. Tuesday night against a proposed resolution to only recognize two sexes. The document of the proposed resolution spread across social media which resulted in a massive turnout of community members at both a protest before the meeting outside the courthouse and at the meeting itself exceeding the room’s 145-person capacity.  Ultimately, the board voted 4-1 against passing the motion. All commissioners voted against the resolution except by Commissioner Joel Keranen who originally drafted the resolution.
