HURLEY - The Iron County Board of Supervisors have approved the hiring of a finance director, a move supporting a Finance Committee recommendation. Supervisor Paul Mullard cast the only dissenting vote at Tuesday’s meeting. The decision, following the appointment of county manager Jay Sween, aims to resolve past budgetary problems and navigate increasingly complex regulations. According to Sween and board member Mario Loreti, the new director is expected to be more cost-effective than hiring consultants, will streamline financial operations, and prevent fraud. County staff will now advertise the open position and begin interviewing.
