VILAS COUNTY - Bill White of Ringle won the 46th annual Midwest Musky Classic on the tournament's final day, catching a 48.75-inch muskie on Lac Vieux Desert. The Phelps Chamber of Commerce hosted a record 217 anglers, up 10% from last year. Anglers caught 24 muskies across four lakes, more than double last year’s total. White won $2,285. Doug Meidl placed second with a 48.25-inch fish, while Wade Sebald took third with a 47.75-inch muskie. Organizers say the tournament has nearly doubled in size over the past decade, bringing visitors to Phelps businesses. Next year’s event is scheduled for October 1st through 3rd, 2027.
