UPPER MICHIGAN - The 2025 deer hunting archery season is officially underway. Michigan DNR officials say the deer population is stronger in lower Michigan, there are far fewer in the U.P., especially along Lake Superior.  For that reason, new regulations will also limit what kind of deer you can harvest this year.  Outdoor retailers say there may be fewer hunters in the woods for the start of the season due to above-average temperatures this week.  The DNR encourages hunters to voluntarily participate in testing for Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD). There are testing sites throughout the U.P. including in Ontonagon County.  This archery season runs until Nov. 14. It then resumes Dec. 1 and continues through Jan. 1.
