N. WISCONSIN - The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) invites everyone to participate in a winter fishing experience during Free Fishing Weekend, scheduled for this weekend. Fishing is more than just catching fish-it’s a great way to enjoy nature, spend quality time with loved ones, learn about Wisconsin’s waters, and bring home a delicious meal. Both residents and nonresidents can fish in most state waters without needing a fishing license, trout, or salmon stamp. The DNR also offers loaner ice fishing equipment at 19 tackle loaner sites statewide, marked with “IF” next to the location name. Essential gear is available, but ice augers are not provided. More complete information is available at dnr.wisconsin.gov and search free winter fishing weekend or by contacting your local fisheries biologist.
