UPPER MICHIGAN - The Michigan State Police warning U.P. residents about a scam that is targeting older adults, and it uses fear and impersonation tactics.  A press release from the MSP says the warning is the result of a scammer that recently targeted an elderly woman in the U.P. clamming her computer had been hacked and asked the victim to provide personal information to verify her identity then instructed the woman to withdraw money from her bank threatening arrest if she didn’t.  When the woman went to the bank, the staff alerted her that the situation was suspicious. The woman then went to her local MSP post to get advice. Luckly the bank stepped in before she gave any money to the scammer.  The Michigan State Police with a reminder that government agencies do not request personal information or money in that way.  If you receive a similar request, stop all communication with the scammer.
