VILAS COUNTY - Wisconsin’s waterfowl hunting and wild rice harvesting seasons are underway, and state officials are urging people to share the water safely and protect fragile rice beds. Harvesters should wear bright colors and display flags, while hunters should stay alert and limit motor use in shallow water. Boaters are asked to avoid rice beds when possible. Several northern Wisconsin waters are closed to harvesting this season, including Allequash, Little Rice, Nixon, Irving, Aurora, and West Plum lakes in Vilas, as well as others in Oneida and Forest counties.
