UPPER MICHIGAN - 180,000 deer were registered across the state this firearm deer season, as numbers continue to decline in Upper Michigan. Menominee County was one of the top three counties in the state for the deer harvest, with more than 2,500 deer harvested.  Experts say late November winter weather played a role in hunters seeing fewer deer; however, the deer that were seen appeared to be healthy.  The number of hunters who purchased tags this year was up slightly, around one percent.  The number of deer reported may be adjusted as some hunters are a little late registering their harvest.  Gogebic County deer harvest numbers were up by about 40 over last year, Ontonagon harvest totals about the same as last year up by only 5.

ASHLAND - Ashland School District leaders want to hear what Ashland residents think about possibly moving to a four-day school week.  The school district recently approved a committee to investigate potential benefits and challenges that come with a 4-day school week.  They say some of the reasons for exploring it include improvements in student and staff mental health while making it easier to recruit and retain teachers.  District leaders are now asking Ashland community members to fill out a survey, sharing their thoughts.  The survey is open through tomorrow.
