WAKEFIELD - Several Upper Peninsula counties, including Gogebic County, are currently experiencing spring flooding that is impacting local infrastructure. In Wakefield, the city's sewer collection system is overwhelmed. While an overflow at a cemetery has been resolved, officials are still addressing the discharge from the Main Lift Station. This discharge is entering the city’s stormwater system, which flows into Planter Creek. Wakefield officials confirm that the appropriate regulatory agencies have been notified. The duration and total volume discharged are still being evaluated. Residents may notice increased utility activity in the areas while response operations continue.

N. WISCONSIN - Wisconsin's Severe Weather Awareness Week is this week. A statewide tornado drill is scheduled for Thursday, the 16th, at 1:45 p.m. and 6:45 p.m., but may be postponed if severe weather is forecast. This week is for reviewing and developing severe weather plans. A NOAA weather radio is the best source for watches and warnings. The drill will no longer include an Emergency Alert System (EAS) test, meaning no cellphone alerts, though local sirens may still be tested. Now is the time to practice shelter plans, prepare emergency kits, plan communication, and prepare pets and neighbors. Visit Readywisconsin.wi.gov for more information.
