N. WISCONSIN - Wild rice harvest numbers are below average this year, according to a report from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR).  A mild winter and heavy storms in mid-June could be the reason for the low numbers across lakes, flowages and rivers.  A wild rice biologist with the Great Lakes Indian Fish and Wildlife Commission says most of the lakes that have been reliable for harvest in previous years are still providing harvest this year.  Wild rice typically reaches maturity in late August through mid-September in Wisconsin.
