MERCER - The annual Run for the Vets marathon, a cherished Mercer community tradition, will see a change in leadership after the 2026 event. This marks the 20th year of the marathon, which benefits military veterans. A new group of volunteers is prepared to take over, ensuring the event’s mission of supporting veterans continues. In a special initiative for 2026, coinciding with the nation’s 250th anniversary, organizers aim to restore military headstones in Mercer Cemetery. The goal is to replace deteriorated markers and improve the cemetery’s condition by Memorial Day 2026. Volunteers are needed for cemetery cleanup, headstone preparation, and general maintenance. Any time or ongoing support is greatly appreciated to honor veterans’ memory. Organizers extended their gratitude to Masonic Lodge No. 237 in Mercer for their mapping and logistical support.
