VILAS COUNTY - There are two Vilas County entities and residents who have been named finalists for the 2024 Wisconsin Leopold Conservation Award, which recognizes farmers and landowners dedicated to exceptional conservation practices. Bartling’s Manitowish Cranberry Company, which is David and Steven Bartling and Joe Hovel of Conover, who’s dedication to furthering the philosophy of protecting the area and advocating for conservation in the state of Wisconsin are the up for the award. The winner of the Leopold Award receives a $10,000 prize. Announcement of the winner will be at the Wisconsin Board of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection meeting in November.
