WAKEFIELD - Around 50 or so people showed up at the Wakefield VFW yesterday to show their support for a $50 million funding package for Wakefield Township needed for the potential Copperwood Mine project.  The meeting also attracted several protesters.  The roughly $50 million funding package would fund infrastructure, including improvements to County Road 519, and telecommunications.  Protesters outside the VFW building yesterday warned about potential environmental impacts to Lake Superior and the Porcupine Mountains from mining.  The $50 million funding package for infrastructure must still pass the Senate before it can be approved by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D-Michigan).
