UPPER MICHIGAN - Michigan environmental regulators are reviewing permits for the Line 5 tunnel project following a state Supreme Court ruling that raised the bar for environmental reviews. The 73-year-old pipeline carries oil through the Straits of Mackinac, connecting Michigan’s Upper and Lower Peninsulas between Lakes Michigan and Huron. Governor Gretchen Whitmer is urging Enbridge to shut it down within months. Environmentalists and tribes welcomed the move, while unions and business groups criticized it.
