N. WISCONSIN - Over the past 15 years or so, Bayfield County has added less new construction than any other Wisconsin county, while Iron County ranked 71st and Ashland County 70th. A new Forward Analytics report says net new construction statewide grew just 24% since 2010, compared with nearly 50% inflation. Bayfield’s growth was only 9.9%, Iron County’s 10.4% and Ashland’s 11.8%, limiting property-tax revenue as costs rise. County officials say the gap is forcing communities to rely on grants, timber revenue and borrowing to maintain services and roads.
