GOGEBIC COUNTY - Michigan renters and homeowners have until the end of the month to submit a claim through the Home Heating Tax Credit to save on energy costs this winter.  The average qualifying household will receive $171 in assistance, mostly applied to utility bills. Some energy providers will automatically provide claimants with a residential income assistance credit that can be worth up to $20 monthly. Food assistance recipients who are seniors, disabled, or veterans and receive a Home Heating Credit of more than $20 may also qualify for increased benefits. The Home Heating Credit cannot be claimed retroactively, so those who miss the Sept. 30 deadline will lose the opportunity to receive this support.  Michigan residents must either be a renter with a contracted lease or a homeowner and meet income requirements.  We have a link on our website and Facebook page with more information and the printable form to apply for the credit.  https://www.michigan.gov/taxes/questions/iit/accordion/heating/home-heating-credit-information-1
