UPPER MICHIGAN - The Michigan State Police are warning the public about another scam.  This scam targeting those who have recently received a legitimate cell phone or other electronic device.  The scammers then contact customers and try to trick them into sending their new devices to the scammer.  The scammers even offer to provide a shipping label via FedEx for the return even going as far to offer a $100 gift card “for your trouble” if the phone was mailed back.  Police say if someone were to follow the scammer’s instructions, the shipping label would send the new device to the scammer and not the actual service provider. The customer would then likely need to pay for a new device. Investigators say in some cases, the scammer could even use the device you send to make further identity theft attempts.  Police say so not use a phone number, link, or other contact information supplied by an unknown/unexpected caller and to call your phone provider if you have any questions or concerns regarding your account or purchase.
