IRON COUNTY - Enbridge has temporary stopped work on the Line 5 reroute in Iron and Ashland County following an accident that resulted in a pipeline rupture last week.  Yesterday Enbridge agreed to begin a 48-hour pause after Enbridge Officials met with the Secretary of the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources on Friday to discuss the ongoing response to the natural gas liquids release.  The pause will allow Enbridge to conduct a project-wide safety stand-down for construction workers. Enbridge said this “will reinforce our existing safety practices and identify opportunities to further enhance our strong safety culture.”  On August 25, an unoccupied, parked semi-truck rolled into an open Line 5 excavation site that ruptured the pipeline.  Enbridge saying about 31,000 barrels of primarily propane and butane have vaporized and dispersed into the atmosphere.  Extensive air monitoring continues at the incident site and surrounding areas. The half-mile evacuation zone around the impacted area remains in place, along with the no-fly zone over the site.
