UPPER MICHIGAN - The Marquette County Health Department is alerting the public to the presence of the West Nile Virus in the Upper Peninsula after a crow was found to be infected in Marquette County. The virus is carried by infected mosquitoes. In human’s symptoms often occur within 3 to 15 days of a mosquito bite and include fever, headache, body aches, skin rash and swollen glands. Heath Department officials say use insect repellent containing DEET, wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants when outdoors, and to Empty water from sites around your home such as buckets, unused kiddie pools, old tires and other places mosquitoes could lay eggs.
