ONTONAGON COUNTY - The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will treat four Ontonagon County rivers with lampricides Sept. 8 through 17 to control invasive sea lampreys.

The treatment targets larvae in the streambeds of the East Sleeping, Little Iron, Potato and Mineral rivers. Sea lampreys threaten Great Lakes fish by feeding on them, and each spawning pair can produce up to 100,000 eggs. Treatment dates may change with weather and stream conditions.
