LANSING - Two new bills signed into law by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, requires every high school head coach and assistant coach to be certified in CPR and AED use. House Bills 5527 and 5528 also mandates that every school in the state establishes an emergency response team made up of trained staff members.  The law comes as sudden cardiac arrest has become one of the leading causes of death among young athletes. Experts say being able to respond quickly with chest compressions, rescue breaths, or an AED can dramatically increase survival rates.
