VILAS COUNTY - Feed Our Rural Kids has provided a $2,200 Legacy Gift to support Shepherd of the Lakes Lutheran Church’s Weekend Backpack Program in Sayner. The church has provided weekend food backpacks to St. Germain Elementary students for 12 years. Last school year, the program served 20 children each weekend, up from eight three years ago. FORK says its Legacy Fund supports nonprofits working to fight childhood food insecurity in Vilas and Oneida counties. The organization hopes the gift will encourage broader community support for the program.
