MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A loyalist to President Donald Trump faces a Democrat seeking to become Wisconsin’s first Black governor in a race that will determine which party will control the office in the battleground state during the 2028 presidential election. Republican U.S. Rep. Tom Tiffany is looking to flip control of the governor’s office in a year when his close allegiance to Trump could hurt him given the president’s record-low approval rating in Wisconsin. Democrat David Crowley, the top elected official in Milwaukee County, is trying to keep the governor’s office under Democratic control for more than eight years for the first time in state history.
