BESSEMER - A 43-year-old Ironwood man was found guilty of four felony drug charges by a Gogebic County jury during a 2-day trial last week. Lucas Alan Johnson was arrested by G.I.A.N.T (Gogebic-Iron Area Narcotics Team) on October 25, 2024. Johnson was a back-seat passenger in a van driven by Sephanie Wanden, who has also been convicted and is serving a prison sentence for her involvement. G.I.A.N.T. had information that Wanden and Tim Russ, who had also been convicted, left the Bessemer area in a van loaned by Russ to pick up Johnson and a large quantity of methamphetamine from the Duluth area. During the traffic stop on Us-2 in Ironwood approximately 48 grams of meth, scales, packaging materials and drugs were found in the van and on Wanden and on Johnson. Johnson was found guilty on four separate felony counts: delivery of methamphetamine, conspiracy to deliver methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine and possession of meth within 1000’ of a public park. Johnson was also charged as an habitual offender and has 3 prior felony convictions. Following Johnson’s conviction Judge Michael Pope revoked Johnson’s bond and remanded him to the custody of the Gogebic County Jail pending sentencing scheduled for September 25.
