IRONWOOD - Crews have started pouring concrete on the landing hill of the Copper Peak project in Ironwood, building walls and stairways, and installing avalanche protection as part of the second year of a four-year, $40 million project. Plastic landing mats will allow year-round training and international competitions and can be sponsored for a $300 contribution per section. Officials say the project is expected to boost tourism and the regional economy. Residents and tourists alike are invited to stop by the new visitors center to track the progress of the largest construction project in Gogebic County history and to buy tickets for Adventure Rides offered on Sundays.
