IRON COUNTY - A project that will connect Mercer to the WinMan Trails and create a 24-mile biking loop is moving closer to reality. The Iron County Outdoor Recreation Enthusiasts, or ICORE, is working to secure funding for the first phase of the Mercer Bike Loop Trail. That phase includes 3.5 miles of trail connecting the school, library, and Carow Park. ICORE is raising a $380,000 local match, with proceeds from this weekend’s Mercer Bike Fest helping support the effort. The full trail expansion is expected to cost about $6 million and will be completed in three phases. ICORE has also applied for a Department of Transportation grant that would cover about 80% of the project’s cost.
