MICHIGAN - The bill to limit cellphones in schools failed to pass in the Michigan House of Representatives.  Governor Gretchen Whitmer had called for bipartisan legislation to limit cellphone use in schools during her 2025 State of the State address.  The bill aimed to restrict phones in hopes of addressing concerns over its negative impact on teens’ mental health and academic performance.  It would prohibit the use of phones on school grounds during class, lunch, and recess for students in elementary and middle school, and would only prohibit cell phone use during class for high school students.  No Democrats voted in favor of the proposal. At least three Democratic lawmakers were needed for the bill to pass.
