GOGBIC COUNTY / U.P. - This week marks the launch of a 30-year effort by the Ottawa National Forest to improve forest health across nearly 178,000 acres. The Silver Branch project includes nearly 80,000 acres of vegetation management to protect water quality, improve wildlife habitat, reduce wildfire risk and enhance recreation. Work will restore aspen and birch, improve fish passage and streams, upgrade campgrounds and trails, and strengthen the forest’s resilience to pests, disease, drought and severe storms.
