BAYFIELD / LAKE SUPERIOR - Officials confirm the Coast Guard rescued two people from Lake Superior on Friday night, near Bayfield. The rescue operation began after the Coast Guard received a distress call about a boat taking on water. When they arrived, first responders pulled two people from the water and brought them to shore. EMS then evaluated both individuals at a nearby marina. Details regarding how long the individuals were in the water or whether they were wearing life jackets were not disclosed by officials. Both Minnesota and Wisconsin mandate that all persons on board a boat have access to a life jacket. Additionally, Minnesota law requires children aged 10 and under to wear a life jacket while on a moving boat.
