L’ANSE - The date for a potential waiver hearing has been set in the case against a former Houghton County attorney.  Evan Dixon appeared yesterday for a review hearing on Zoom with Gogebic County District Court Judge Anna Talaska.  Dixon is charged with first-degree murder for the fatal shooting of 53-year-old Theron Duncan in the Douglass House Saloon bathroom last November. This comes after he was ruled competent to stand trial last month.  During Tuesday’s hearing, both the prosecution and defense agreed to begin plea negotiations.  Dixon’s preliminary exam is scheduled for Aug. 16.  If a deal is made, the waiver would instead take place on Aug. 14 in Houghton.  In the case of a waiver hearing, Dixon would not proceed to trial.
