UPPER MICHIGAN - The two men who drowned in Lake Superior near the Keweenaw Peninsula on June 28 have been identified. The Keweenaw County Sheriff’s Office reports that Devin Wright, 33, of Chassell, and Mathew Wickstrom, 36, of Laurium were the two of three men who were in a canoe that capsized near Copper Harbor. The third occupant of the canoe was able to swim to shore and contact authorities. Keweenaw Search and Rescue, Copper Harbor Fire, the U.S. Coast Guard, Michigan DNR, and the Michigan State Police dive team along with the Keweenaw Sheriff’s Department all participated in the search and recovery operation to bring the two men home.
