WESTERN U.P. / N. WISC – You may see Low-level airplane flights in the Upper Peninsula and northern Wisconsin over the next few months.    The flights are by the United States Geological Survey to collect Data using airborne geophysical technology as part of a national effort to map critical mineral resources needed to drive the U.S. economy and national security, searching below ground and in tailings from old mines.  The flights will take place over Gogebic and Ontonagon Counties in the Western U.P. and over Iron, Ashland, Vilas and Price Counties in Northern Wisconsin.  Most of the surveying is to be completed by late fall, However, surveying may continue in the spring and summer of next year to avoid adverse weather conditions.
