VILAS COUNTY - The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has awarded more than a million dollars in grants for Aquatic Invasive Species management and prevention projects in several counties, including Vilas and Oneida counties. Seven of the largest grants total close to half a million dollars will be used for management on lakes like Big Sand in Vilas and Tomahawk, Squash, Minocqua and Three Lakes Chain in Oneida county. Vilas county received just over $101,000 that will help fund at least five projects in the county. The program received 428 applications requesting more than $9.1 million in funding.
