GOGEBIC / IRON COUNTIES – Strong Thunderstorms pushed though the region early Saturday knocking out power to thousands in the Western U.P. and Northern Wisconsin.  Those storms knocking out power at around 4:30 in the morning Saturday just before extreme heat in the 90s with a heat index over 100 Saturday and Sunday.  Cooling centers were opened in Watersmeet over the weekend for those without power trying to beat the heat.  It took until late yesterday afternoon for Xcel crews to fully restore power to the region.  One more hot humid day for us on the Gogebic Range that day being today.  A frontal boundary will push through late this afternoon with will fire up strong to severe thunderstorms mainly in the central and Eastern UP and Northeast Wisconsin behind that front more seasonal temperatures back in the 70s for tomorrow.
