BESSEMER - The city of Bessmer has hired a new auditor. The Bessemer City Council at the beginning of the week approved hiring Gabridge and Company of Grand Rapids to audit the city’s records for this year and next. The cost for both years is just under $50,000. The city had been using another company based in Houghton for the past 20 years and would have cost less. City clerk/treasurer Samantha Zakovec said it was time to make a change, in order to gain the benefit of a new set of eyes, which is in line with best practices. Gogebic County also used Gabridge and has been pleased with their services.
