IRON COUNTY - The National Park Service has acquired 213 acres between Saxon Harbor County Park and the Montreal River as part of the nearly 5,000-mile North Country National Scenic Trail. The property features views of Superior Falls and Lake Superior and is expected to help move more of the trail off roadways and onto dedicated paths. The land also has historical significance as part of the ancient Flambeau Trail and a former American Fur Company trading post. The Trust for Public Land purchased the property from a private owner and transferred it to the National Park Service with help from the Land and Water Conservation Fund.
