MADISON - A $1.8 billion tax relief and school funding deal backed by Gov. Tony Evers and Republican leaders failed in the state Senate Wednesday night.  The deal passed in the Assembly but was rejected by the state Senate in a 15 to 18 vote.  The deal included a $600 million increase for public school funding, with $300 million for general school aid for K-12 schools starting in 2026-27 and another $300 million for special education funding.  Would have eliminated tax on tips and overtime and would have included a $300 refund to those who filed a tax return in 2024, married couples who filed jointly would have received $600.
